District Announcement: Partnering for Student Safety: Teen Social Media & Internet Safety Lessons
In the coming weeks, Hawkins County Schools will begin implementing Social Media and Internet Safety Instruction for students in grades 6–12.
As required by Tennessee state law (Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-4603), this instruction is designed to equip our students with essential digital citizenship skills, online safety strategies, and awareness surrounding digital mental well-being.
When Will Instruction Take Place?
Lessons will be taught during November and December. Depending on instructional schedules, some lessons may extend into the 2nd semester to ensure students receive comprehensive coverage without disrupting core learning time.

We believe that protecting our students online is a shared responsibility between home and school. We encourage families to review lesson topics on our website, ask questions, and continue conversations about responsible digital habits at home:
Parent Opt-Out Information
While Tennessee law requires districts to offer this instruction, parents and guardians have the option to excuse their child from all or part of the curriculum: To opt out, parents/guardians must complete the official district opt-out form and return it directly to their student's teacher or school principal by October 30, 2026.
Students who are excused will receive alternative learning activities and will not be penalized for grading purposes.

Join us for STEM Night on Thursday, October 29th from 5:00-6:00. Get ready for some glow in the dark fun!
Grades 3-5 Spooktacular Celebration will be tomorrow from 3:00-5:00! If a child is dressing up in his or her costume for the party and costume contest, they will need to leave the costume in their backpack until they go to the party at 3:00.
If a student has not turned in their permission slip or money for the party, he or she may turn it into their teacher tomorrow morning.

The Bulls Gap Band loved having Dr. Davidson from Carson Newman come work with our trombone section this week! Dr. Davidson and the trombone section both got to showcase the music they’ve been working on. We were so lucky to have him here at Bulls
